What Is An Earthquake

Maybe you want to know more about earthquakes.  What is an earthquake?

An earthquake happens pressure along a fault line is suddenly released.  A fault line is the place where two plates of the earth’s crust meet.  At some fault lines, the plates are slowly drifting apart.  At others, the plates are being pressed together.  This action created the great Himalayan mountain range.  This action is also what causes an earthquake.  Pressure builds up between the plates, and eventually, the pressure must be released.  The reverberations are what we feel as an earthquake.  There are approximately 100 earthquakes worldwide every year that cause damage.
